Pontianak, W Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Singkawang city, West Kalimantan, has successfully held the 2023 National Human Rights Festival, according to chair of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), Atnike Nova Sigiro.

"We are very proud of the tolerance that is well maintained in Singkawang city, making the National Human Rights Festival activities held in Singkawang city this year run successfully," Sigiro added in Singkawang on Friday.

The Tolerance Campaign and the Declaration on Anti-Bullying must be pursued as an effort to encourage and instill human rights values in society, especially the younger generation, she stressed.

"One of the efforts to encourage human rights to be embedded in society is through the Tolerance Campaign and the Declaration on Anti-Bullying that was carried out today," she said.

The declaration calls for teaching school students about human rights values, such as non-violence and respect for human rights.

She said she hoped that the National Human Rights Festival will inspire other districts/cities of Indonesia to maintain tolerance and uphold human rights values.

Through the Anti-Bullying Declaration, school children and young people in Singkawang city are expected to become pioneers in maintaining the safety and comfort of learning in school environments, she added.

"There should be no bullying of men and women, young and older. We must maintain the safety and comfort in schools. I hope the younger people here can become anti-bullying ambassadors in Singkawang city and in Indonesia," she said.

On the same occasion, chair of the Inter-Religious Harmony Forum (FKUB) of Singkawang city, Baharudin, expressed the hope that the event would benefit the community and help maintain the city's title of Tolerant City and Human Rights-Friendly City in Indonesia.

The 2023 National Human Rights Festival in Singkawang city closed with a leisure walk and the Declaration on Anti-Bullying by school students.
