The incidents in 2019 that were caused by fatigue...must not repeat again.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Care must be taken so that the phenomenon of extreme fatigue that caused deaths and sickness among election officers in the 2019 elections is not repeated in 2024, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has stressed.

"The incidents in 2019 that were caused by fatigue and (wherein the election officers already) have underlying diseases, must not repeat again," he said in a press statement after attending the 2023 National Food Security Movement in Bekasi, West Java, on Wednesday.

According to Amin, the government is currently formulating preventive measures to prevent fatigue cases among election officials next year.

"Therefore, (the government) is mapping (a strategy to prevent) them from experiencing those cases (falling sick or dead)," he said.

The government is also focusing on anticipating potential security risks during the 2024 General Elections.

On the same occasion, the chief of National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, said that police officials are mapping potential vulnerabilities across regions ahead of the elections.

"We are paying attention to the vulnerability (in regions based on information) issued by the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), but we are handing over to the regions to map and identify (the risks) based on existing and latest data," he informed.

Prabowo said that the police will collaborate with the Indonesian Military (TNI) to secure vulnerable regions, including the four new autonomous regions (DOBs) in Papua.

"We and TNI will work together in securing the potential regions, especially the new autonomous regions in Papua. The Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) must be successfully held so the four DOBs can have new administrations," he added.

In addition to the police chief, the VP was accompanied by Minister of Agriculture, Amran Sulaiman, and TNI Commander, Yudo Margono, at the National Food Security Movement event.
