He seeks to be appointed as a representative to negotiate with relevant partiesJakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo is planning to attend the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Saudi Arabia to discuss the latest conditions in Palestine amid the ongoing Israeli bombardment.
After meeting with Widodo at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday, Chairperson of the Association of Islamic Students (HMI) Raihan Ariatama stated that Jowoki, as Widodo is known, expressed his willingness to become a representative to negotiate solutions to end violence.
"He (Jokowi) said that he would once again participate in a meeting with OIC countries. He seeks to be appointed as a representative to negotiate with relevant parties," Ariatama revealed.
During its meeting with President Jokowi, the HMI expressed concern over the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Palestinian Gaza while noting that Israel had committed crimes against humanity.
The association also expressed hope that Jokowi would continue to direct Indonesia to help the people of Palestine to achieve independence from the occupying Israeli forces, including by continuously providing humanitarian aid for the people.

"After all, Palestine was the first country to support the independence of Indonesia. Hence, we need to support them as well," Ariatama stated.
As quoted from its official website, the OIC is planning to hold an extraordinary summit in Saudi Arabia on Sunday (November 12) to discuss the humanitarian crisis brought to the people of Palestine in Gaza by Israeli forces.
Earlier, on Saturday (November 4), President Jokowi sent off the first batch of humanitarian assistance, weighing 51.5 tons, from the Indonesian government and people for Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.
"This (assistance) is a manifestation of Indonesian solidarity, the nation's care for humanity because the humanitarian tragedy happening in Gaza is unacceptable and must be ended immediately," he remarked during the sending off ceremony at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta.
Meanwhile, Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto noted that Indonesia is ready to send a hospital ship to the waters near Gaza to provide medical treatments to Palestinian refugees.
"The TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) is ready to send a hospital ship that will be on standby there to provide more assistance," he remarked after accompanying Jokowi during the send-off of humanitarian aid.
