Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi (ANTARA) - An official from the General Elections Commission (KPU) stated that the recapitulation information system (SIREKAP) application will only be used to help in monitoring the process of voting and vote counting for the 2024 Election.

KPU's Coordinator of the Human Resources, Education and Training, and Research and Development Division, Parsadaan Harahap, stated that the application is currently being repaired while the regulation is being discussed by the government and the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI).

"SIREKAP will support election officers in the voting and vote counting process. Everyone can monitor it. However, the final results used officially are the results of manual recapitulation," Harahap stated during his visit to West Muna District on Thursday.

According to Harahap, the SIREKAP application would not be the basis for voting recapitulation. He emphasized that the most important measuring tool in the 2024 election vote count is tiered recapitulation.

"From voting pools (TPS) to sub-district election committee (PPK) and so on," he remarked.

Harahap noted that the application can help the public to access the election results, when usually, after voting and counting, election participants immediately claim to have won.

"With SIREKAP, the counting can be monitored. This helps to avoid self-claims from election participants. Do not be too focused on one result. We offer an alternative with this application," he remarked.

He stated that the application is important to build a healthy psychology of members of society owing to the psychological forces at play during the election.

"Hence, this election involves the psychology of society at large. There is a supporting team, the supporters, and candidates," he noted.

The KPU has set the date for the 2024 presidential election on February 14, 2024, with three presidential-vice presidential candidate pairs: Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.
