"We are here to ensure that the flat towers dedicated to our civil servants and security personnel will complete construction on time," he remarked on the sidelines of his inspection on Friday.
Jokowi expressed optimism about the government being successful in concluding the construction of 12 flat towers by July this year, with 21 others expected to be completed later in September 2024.
The president further noted that the government would also push for completing the development of 14 other flat towers, meaning that a total of 47 flat towers are being prepared for civil servants and security officers to be transferred to IKN.
"These are long-term works, so we need to take them step by step. Today, we carried out a topping off process to demonstrate that the buildings are almost done. We are halfway to reaching completion," he pointed out.
He then stated that the government might start relocating state apparatus to Indonesia's future capital city in June this year.
The State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN RB) Ministry has been working swiftly to devise scenarios for the transfer of civil servants and security apparatus.
On January 22, PAN RB Minister Abdullah Azwar Anas noted that proper scenarios are crucial to ensure that the government continues to work in a productive manner in spite of the relocation process.
For devising the scenarios, he said, the ministry is coordinating with several institutions to determine the exact number of apparatus to be transferred to IKN Nusantara from each institution and to synchronize the numbers with those of dedicated residences being built in the new capital.
According to data from the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, civil servants will inhabit 36 towers, while security officers have been allocated 16 towers in the new capital city.
The ministry stated that a total of 2,820 flats, measuring 98 square meters each, will be available for state apparatus on a total area of 45.91 hectares. A budget, totaling Rp9.4 trillion (around US$600 million), is required to construct the flats.
