Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry stated that most people embarked on family trips during the 2024 Eid holiday.

"People traveling with partners, 90 of percent of them were with their family. The Eid homecoming is indeed a family time," the ministry's expert staff, Nia Niscaya, stated in a weekly press conference monitored online from here on Tuesday.

Based on the statistics of the movement of domestic tourists, she explained that 89.9 percent of domestic tourists traveled during the Eid holiday this year, with 74.9 percent of them using private vehicles.

Tourists thronged several destinations, such as beaches, lakes, culinary centers, mountains, agrotourism spots, recreational parks, zoos, and shopping centers.

Niscaya noted that the people also spent their holiday money on accommodation, transportation, food and beverages, and shopping for souvenirs.

She stated that Indonesian tourists typically purchased souvenirs.

"The characteristic of the domestic tourists is that they buy souvenirs for their neighbors and their younger siblings, so this is indeed in the Indonesians' 'DNA,'" she remarked.

On the other hand, Niscaya drew attention to several obstacles faced by tourists, such as traffic congestion, overcrowded tourist destinations, weather conditions, significant increase in prices, and inadequate necessary amenities.

The ministry stated that the potential economic turnover during the 2024 Eid holiday based on the ministry's survey reached Rp369.8 trillion, or US$22.8 billion.

"We say that the potential economic turnover figure is approximately Rp369.8 trillion," she remarked.
