"Officials and technical staff at the PUPR Ministry will obtain knowledge and training that can build their capacity to manage and control issues related to floods," PUPR Minister's Special Staff for Water Resources Firdaus Ali told ANTARA in Jakarta on Sunday.
He noted that the holding of the triennial forum is also expected to encourage the transfer of knowledge and technology, providing participants with opportunities to access the best and latest technology instrumental for managing water resources and controlling floods.
Ali added that the 10th WWF would also enable the PUPR Ministry to draw insights into flood management from other countries.
The official further said that Indonesia envisions the forum as a place to encourage the international community to contribute financially to flood mitigation projects in the country.
The PUPR Ministry has continued to make preparations for making Indonesia a successful host for the forum that will be held on May 18–25 under the grand theme of "Water for Shared Prosperity."
This year's WWF is also expected to serve as momentum for Indonesia to demonstrate its leadership and commitment to global actions against water management challenges.
The forum will focus on four topics of discussion, namely water conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy resilience, and mitigation of natural disasters.
The Indonesian government has invited 43 ambassadors and four international organizations to the forum, which is expected to draw the participation of around 50 thousand delegates from various countries.
During the forum, delegates will have the opportunity to participate in 244 sessions that are expected to result in concrete support for the establishment of a Center of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience.
Furthermore, the sessions are expected to conclude with the mainstreaming of the implementation of the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) approach on small islands and the designation of World Lake Day.
