Jakarta (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian has called for efforts to ensure the security of voter data during the 2024 Regional Elections, which are scheduled to be held on November 27.

Karnavian conveyed this during the handover of the List of Potential Election Voters (DP4) from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the General Elections Commission (KPU) on Thursday.

He expressed the hope that the KPU will provide support through cooperation, communication, and updating the DP4.

"The second is the security system because it is related to the features that must be protected, related to the data of the community. Thus, we hope the security system of KPU is strong," he told the press after the DP4 handover event here.

There are several things whose protection is considered essential, including personal data security, which is regulated by Law Number 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection.

In this regard, the minister stressed that data breaches must not occur.

He informed that two criteria were used in preparing the DP4. First, whether the voters fulfilled the age requirement of being at least 17 years old as of November 27, he said.

Second, whether eligible voters were members of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) because they do not have the right to vote.

"The (voter) data has been sourced from data of the Home Affairs Ministry's Population and Civil Registration (Directorate General). Preparing the potential voters' data is one of the responsibilities of the government," he said.

The DP4 for simultaneous regional elections has the names of 207,110,768 voters, comprising 103,228,748 men and 103,882,020 women.

Indonesians will elect governors, deputy governors, mayors, deputy mayors, district heads, and deputy district heads in the regional elections.
