Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transportation collaborates with PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI) to maintain state vessels in order to achieve shipping safety and security as well as protect the maritime environment. "Through the Directorate of Navigation, a cooperation agreement has been signed with PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia regarding Survey Services, Classification Certification, Consultation and Surveying for the Maintenance of National Navigation Ship," Secretary of Directorate General of Sea Transportation of the ministry, Lollan Panjaitan, stated on Friday.

Panjaitan remarked that the inking of the cooperation agreement was an important step in the efforts to create synergy and cooperation as well as mutual support between agencies to achieve better navigational safety for state ships.

Panjaitan affirmed that the collaboration also symbolized solid synergy between the Directorate General of Sea Transportation and BKI to realize shipping safety and security as well as protect the maritime environment.

"For this reason, I invite all parties to maintain their commitment to carrying out this collaboration with integrity and full dedication, so that they can increase service efficiency, maximize resource utilization, and create a greater positive impact on society," he remarked.

The signing of the cooperation agreement was conducted by Director of Navigation of the Directorate General of Sea Transportation of the ministry, Budi Mantoro, and President Director of BKI, Arisudono Soerono, at the ministry's office.

Mantoro remarked that the collaboration was carried out based on Decree of the Director General of Sea Transportation Number KP. 722 of 2023 concerning Standard Guidelines for the Maintenance of Navigation State Ship within the Directorate General of Sea Transportation.

He explained that in the Decree of the Director General of Sea Transportation, the classification of state vessels for navigation is an important benchmark in the maintenance of state ships in future.

Apart from that, the Navigation District, in submitting its proposed state ship docking budget, is sometimes not accompanied by supporting data in the form of a technical study of ship docking that would strengthen the proposed budget.

Hence, Mantoro underscored the need for cooperation with credible institutions to carry out these activities, both the classification of state navigation vessels and the planning and supervision of the docking of state navigation ships.

"By signing this cooperation agreement, it is hoped that all Budget User Authorities (KPA) can carry out good cooperation with PT Indonesian Classification Bureau (BKI) for the maintenance of our ships in the future," Mantoro stated.
