"I conveyed Indonesia's stance on the One China policy to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. This demonstrates our consistency in foreign policy," remarked Luhut during the "Geopolitics of Critical Mineral Supply Chain Dynamics" seminar in Jakarta on Thursday.
He made this statement in connection with the possibility of conflict between China and Taiwan due to tensions between them.
The One China policy asserts that China is the official government of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. Consequently, it does not recognize Taiwan as an independent and sovereign country.
Luhut emphasized the need for Indonesia to reiterate this stance in light of the potential conflict between China and Taiwan.
"I do not foresee an open war between China and Taiwan, but the tensions will undoubtedly have an impact," he pointed out.
Luhut also highlighted the possibility of other geopolitical challenges, including the impact of the US presidential election scheduled for November 5.
He stressed the importance of closely monitoring the geopolitical dynamics between China and the United States, as these two countries are among the three global powers that influence global trade.
"There are three major powers that can shape global trade: China, the United States, and the European Union," he remarked.
