Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - The AFF U-19 Cup in Surabaya from July 17–29, 2024, could help increase the income of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the Surabaya City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has said.

The competition will be held at the Gelora Bung Tomo (GBT) Stadium and the Gelora 10 November Stadium.

"The AFF U-19 Cup will have a positive impact on business actors and MSMEs," Surabaya Kadin chairperson H.M. Ali Affandi Andi La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti told ANTARA here on Tuesday.

Mattalitti said that during the AFF U-19 Cup, MSMEs can collaborate with sponsors and organizers to offer products or services, and thereby, increase their exposure and sales.

"They can invite the private sector to participate in the form of sponsorship or strategic partnerships," he added.

However, to maximize this momentum, MSMEs must conduct massive promotion and marketing to attract more tourists, including by using social media and digital marketing, he said.

This is the key to mutual collaboration among MSMEs as many enthusiastic spectators will come to Surabaya to watch AFF U-19, he explained.

"The increase in sales is in line with the number of visitors because the demand for local products and services will increase. This includes unique culinary, handicrafts, and souvenirs," Mattalitti said.

He further said that the local government must provide training and assistance to MSMEs, such as management and marketing skills, so that they can improve the quality of their products.

Meanwhile, the coach of the Indonesian U-19 national team, Indra Sjafri, has selected 23 players for the U-19 Cup.

Indonesia will compete in Group A with Timor Leste, Cambodia, and the Philippines.
