Jakarta (ANTARA) - The "Sahabat Anak Jamboree," one of the 2024 National Children's Day activities, taught children about the importance of protecting their privacy in the digital realm, the Women's Empowerment and Children Protection (PPPA) Ministry said.

"Children must understand digital ethics, including copyright, privacy protection, and personal data," an official at the ministry, Ari Razmara, said here on Saturday.

Therefore, through the jamboree, the ministry sought to convey a message to parents, caregivers, and guardians about their role in protecting children from digital dangers.

According to Razmara, parents need to teach their children about time management, have a sense of responsibility, and ensure that they are safe while using digital products, services, and features.

"The Internet is not just entertainment, use your precious time to explore your untouched potential. In this jamboree, there are many activities and games that can hone logical skills and problem-solving, and digital creativity," she said.

However, children who are quick to understand how to use technology must not be stopped from developing their creativity through digital platforms, she added.

One of the jamboree volunteers, Maura Sianipar, invited the children participating in the event to refrain from bullying on social media.

Sianipar invited a five-year-old participant to come forward and crumple a piece of paper.

"The crumpled paper cannot be returned as it was (original condition). This is a parable of bullying impact," she said.

At least 500 children from marginalized communities, aged 7–15 years, participated in the event, which was themed "You are my best friend, I protect you."

The volunteers taught them about the importance of preventing bullying, protecting their privacy in the digital realm, emergencies, and so on.
