"It grew by 22.3 percent. The workforce absorption is 1,225,042 people. With a target of 1,650 trillion rupiahs (around 101.29 billion dollars), we have reached 50.3 percent," he noted in a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.
He explained that domestic investment dominated workforce absorption, with an investment value of 408.2 trillion rupiahs (around 25.06 billion dollars), and absorbed 738,202 Indonesian workers.
Meanwhile, for foreign investment, the workforce absorption reached 486,840 people, with investment realization in the first semester of 2024 reaching 421.7 trillion rupiahs (around 25.88 billion dollars).
The figure reflected an increase of 375,861 people compared to the workforce absorption of 849,181 people in the first semester of 2023.
The minister further noted that based on the subsectors, the manufacturing sector, including the basic metal, metal goods, non-machinery, and equipment industries, as well as the transportation, warehousing, and telecommunications sectors, contributed the most to investment realization.
The manufacturing sector contributed 122.2 trillion rupiahs (around 7.5 billion dollars), while the transportation, warehousing, and telecommunications sectors contributed 89.2 trillion rupiah (around 5.47 billion dollars).
Furthermore, Lahadalia highlighted that the top five contributors to Indonesia's investment realization in the first semester of 2024 are Singapore, with 8.9 billion dollars; China, 3.9 billion dollars; Hong Kong, 3.8 billion dollars; the United States (US), 2 billion dollars; and Japan, 1.8 billion dollars.
