Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin emphasized that the 1945 Constitution is the cornerstone of Indonesian governance, safeguarding human rights for all citizens.

"The Constitution occupies the highest position in our legal hierarchy, serving as a cornerstone for upholding legal values and ensuring justice, freedom, and equality in democratic practice," he remarked during the online commemoration of National Constitution Day from Jakarta on Sunday.

Amin underscored that National Constitution Day, observed annually on August 18 to commemorate the birth of the 1945 Constitution, is an opportunity for Indonesians to honor the founding fathers who crafted the Constitution as a fundamental pillar of the nation.

He acknowledged that the Indonesian people have endured various challenges that tested their adherence to the Constitution.

"Given this, it is crucial for us all to maintain our commitment to the Constitution while ensuring its adaptability to evolving social, political, and economic circumstances," he pointed out.

The Vice President emphasized that the Constitution should guide the nation toward a future where challenges are met with resilience and hopes are transformed into realities.

"Furthermore, the Constitution must foster innovation and broaden opportunities for participation across all segments of society," he stressed.

Amin commended the successful conduct of the 2024 presidential and legislative elections. He called for a similar success in the upcoming regional head elections on November 27.

"I call upon everyone to support the regional elections in their respective areas and to uphold the Constitution by adhering to democratic principles, preventing and addressing fraud, and prioritizing stability and security," he concluded.
