Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), and the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) are preparing a plan to build a badminton training center.

"We are following this plan with the PUPR Ministry regarding the construction of a badminton training center, equipped with sports science and biomechanism," Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo said at a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday.

He informed that the new training facility is a follow-up to the government's support for the PBSI road map until 2028 for the short, medium, and long term.

Currently, his ministry and the PUPR Ministry are studying several options for building the facility.

Ariotedjo expressed the hope that the construction of the facility would begin soon as part of the preparations for the 2028 Olympics.

Meanwhile, the general chair of PBSI, Fadil Imran, thanked the government for building the new facility.

He said he was so surprised with the government's prompt response to the short-term program that he proposed for his tenure (2024–2028).

Imran added that one of his short-term targets is to complete badminton training facilities and infrastructure — a key aspect for improving achievements.

"The increased badminton achievement in developed countries is indeed inseparable from facilities and infrastructure," he highlighted.

According to him, one of the important aspects is implementing sports science since sports coaching is currently carried out using a quantitative approach.

"PBSI thanks the Youth and Sports Ministry for this support. We hope the sports science building can accommodate the fitness aspect, technical aspect, and health aspect of athletes quantitatively," he said.

However, he did not reveal the budget for the construction of the new facility since it will be adjusted to the needs of the facility in the future.
