Jambi (ANTARA) - Police are still investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a warehouse, suspected of having stored tens of cans of used fuel, in the Kenali Asam neighborhood of Jambi City on early Saturday.

Jambi police investigators did not meet the warehouse owner and guards when arriving at the fire-damaged building on Saturday, Jambi Police Spokesperson Sen Coms M Amin Nasution said.

According to Nasution, the building caught fire at 03.30 a.m. local time. About two hours later, local firefighters could have extinguished the fire.

The police continue to probe into allegations against the warehouse that might have been used for storing used fuel, he added.

A video showing an explosion from the warehouse, allegedly storing tens of cans of used fuel, had gone viral on social media platforms.

Indonesia has experienced several significant fires in recent years.

On Saturday, August 17, 2024, a fire broke out at the Ubud art market in Gianyar District, Bali Province, around 1:00 p.m. local time.

Fourteen days before the Ubud art market fire that attracted public attention in Bali, a three-story building at Padang State Polytechnic in West Sumatra also caught fire.

A shop building fire in Mampang Prapatan, Jakarta, on April 18, 2024, claimed seven lives.

The devastating Plumpang Pertamina Depot fire in North Jakarta on March 3, 2023, resulted in 33 fatalities.

Additionally, a fire in Pademangan Subdistrict, North Jakarta, on October 22, 2022, caused three deaths.
