Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) affirmed that the construction of the Australian Independent School (AIS) campus in IKN Nusantara, East Kalimantan, reflects the government's commitment to providing world-class education in the new capital city.

"This morning, we carry out the groundbreaking for construction of an international school in IKN Nusantara, which is the AIS," the president stated at IKN Nusantara on Wednesday, as monitored from here via the Presidential Secretariat YouTube channel.

President Jokowi highlighted that the AIS Nusantara campus is being built on an area of 7,900 square meters and will be able to accommodate 750 students from pre-school to high school levels.

"It is complete with international-standard facilities such as mini soccer, a tennis court, a basketball court, a badminton court, a volleyball court, a semi-Olympic swimming pool, and an auditorium with a capacity of 250 people," the president elaborated.

The head of state noted that the presence of AIS Nusantara demonstrates the government's seriousness in providing world-class supporting facilities in IKN, including educational institutions.

"I hope that AIS, with its reputation and track record for 28 years in education, can organize world-class education in IKN, promote global education, and provide quality education for residents in Nusantara who come from various regions, countries, and backgrounds," he remarked.

"By saying Bismillahirrahmanirrahim (in the name of God), I declare that the construction of the Australian Independent School Nusantara has begun," Jokowi said in his closing remarks.

The AIS project has an initial investment of Rp150 billion (US$9.4 million).

Based on Law No. 3 of 2022 concerning the IKN Master Plan development, IKN is covered by the state budget and investment via direct investment and private-public partnership.
