Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will return to his hometown in Surakarta, Central Java, on a commercial flight after retiring from the presidency.

This was conveyed by Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi in Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon.

"It's right. (He will be) Taking commercial plane from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base," Setiadi confirmed via text message.

He informed that the President plans to fly to Solo from Halim Airport in East Jakarta at 3 p.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB) on October 20, 2024.

When asked about which commercial airline he would fly, the minister replied: "Citilink or Garuda."

Earlier, State Secretariat Minister Pratikno said that the Presidential Palace has prepared commercial plane tickets for Widodo who will fly out after the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka on October 20.

According to Pratikno, President Widodo will be guarded by Presidential Security Force (Paspampres) officers even after retiring.
