Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) Dr. dr. M. Adib Khumaidi Sp.OT encouraged collaboration to tackle various health problems in Indonesia.

"The modality that we should build to overcome health problems is collaboration," Khumaidi stated here on Sunday.

He made the statement while speaking at a discussion titled "Crucial Issues Facing the Prabowo Subianto Government: Health Sector," as monitored here on Sunday.

According to Khumaidi, the government will not be able to address all health problems in the country, ranging from the distribution of health workers to the reduction in tuberculosis cases.

"The central government will not be able to (solve it) without collaboration. Local governments will also not be able to do it without collaboration," he stressed.

He cited the handling of COVID-19 cases as evidence of the important role of collaboration. He attributed Indonesia's effective handling of the pandemic to the collaboration between the government, the community, and the private sector.

"The handling of COVID-19 was successful not only thanks to the role of the government or doctors, but it was thanks to collaboration. Therefore, the modality that should be built is collaboration," he highlighted.

On the same occasion, he also noted that health problems do not only arise due to health factors but are also influenced by environmental conditions and educational levels. Hence, he emphasized that healthcare responsibilities extend beyond the Health Ministry's domain.

Khumaidi outlined several ongoing health hurdles faced by Indonesia, noting that maternal mortality rates remain above the targeted 189 per 100,000 live births set for 2024.

Moreover, the government's target to lower the infant mortality rate to 16 per 1,000 live births has yet to be achieved.
