Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has a good personal relationship with Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, according to Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir.

This is on account of Gibran's experience living in Singapore when he was pursuing a bachelor's degree.

He received a diploma from the Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) in 2010, with a BSc (S1) from the University of Bradford, a partner of MDIS.

"The meeting (between Gibran and Wong) was conducted in a more relaxed atmosphere," Nasir said after accompanying Gibran to the meeting, which took place at a restaurant in Jakarta on Wednesday.

"The Vice President (Gibran) started the discussion by telling a story about when he was in Singapore. He is certainly familiar with Singapore because he once lived there," he added.

During the meeting which lasted for about 30 minutes, Gibran and Wong discussed efforts to improve bilateral relations between the two countries.

Gibran emphasized downstreaming—the main topic of discussion at the meeting—as an important program of the Indonesian government for supporting the economy.

"The meeting was conducted more in a tete-a-tete manner," Nasir added.

However, Gibran had to leave early to attend a meeting led by President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace.

The vice president delegated Deputy Minister Nasir to continue the bilateral meeting with PM Wong at the restaurant.

Earlier in the morning, PM Wong was received by President Prabowo at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

Wong's trip to Indonesia is his third this year, and the meeting with the Indonesian head of state his fourth.

He described his ongoing trip as very special since it is his first official visit to Indonesia following his inauguration as prime minister on May 15, 2024.
