"The public can file a report if they find indications of violations. Please document and take photos for the proof. The public's participation is needed to keep this democratic process running with quality," she said in a DPR press release received here on Tuesday.
Reports on civil servants breaking their neutrality on Pilkada voting day must be handled seriously by the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) and law enforcement, she added.
According to her, the 2024 Pilkada is a mechanism for citizens to cast their vote for the regional leader candidates they support.
Therefore, the democratic rights of the citizens must be protected from interference by irresponsible civil servants who wish to make certain candidates win.
Based on data from the State Apparatus Commission (KASN), so far, 403 reports on alleged violations of ASN neutrality have been filed, of which 183 have been proven true.
For this reason, Maharani has asked citizens to file a report if they suspect violations by civil servants.
"It is much more important to give freedom to the people to vote because the victory of democracy is also the people's sovereign victory," the House Speaker said.
Not just ASN, Maharani also reminded political elites involved in the Pilkada to uphold good political ethics to maintain respect for democracy.
"(Pilkada) candidate pairs and supporting political parties must be able to maintain their respect by having ethical politics," she added.
