Karawang, West Java (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto distributed saline tilapia fry during his visit to the Aquaculture Production and Business Service Center (BLUPPB) in Karawang District, West Java, on Monday.

The president arrived at the Karawang BLUPPB area on Monday at around 9 a.m. local time and inspected the observation tower to review the saline tilapia cultivation ponds.

From atop the tower, the president witnessed the fish cultivation process.

Furthermore, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono updated President Prabowo on the potential and productivity of the saline tilapia cultivation ponds.

Trenggono elaborated that saline tilapia ponds in the Karawang BLUPPB have a production target of 80-100 tons per hectare per cycle.

Tilapia is one of the national priority aquaculture commodities due to its high economic value in meeting market needs, both domestically and internationally. It can also support the national food security program.

On that occasion, President Prabowo, accompanied by Minister Trenggono and Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Didit Herdiawan, released saline tilapia fry into one of the ponds.

The baby fish stocking aims to enhance productivity and advance the priority program of blue economy implementation carried out by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.

President Prabowo then visited the rearing area of saline tilapia babies. Rearing is one of the initial cycles of fish cultivation. The head of state also greeted residents and fish farmers around the pond area.

The president's visit was part of the government's steps to realize the Asta Cita missions related to food self-sufficiency, economic equity, and poverty eradication through optimizing the fisheries sector.

The saline tilapia cultivation at BLUPPB Karawang is expected to support the provision of free nutritious meals based on fish protein to the community.
