The aid includes various types of basic medicines, IV fluids, antibiotics, oxygen concentrators, and disposable medical equipment required at the location, Head of the ministry's Health Crisis Center Sumarjaya informed in a statement issued on Saturday.
"The Sukabumi floods isolated many residents and exposed them to many diseases. Therefore, we immediately delivered medicines and medical supplies to suppress the health impacts," he said.
The medical aid for disaster victims was sent on Friday along with additional food for pregnant women and toddlers, amounting to one ton each, he added.
Sukabumi District has set an emergency response status for floods and landslides from December 4–10, 2024.
In response, the Health Ministry's Health Crisis Center has deployed a management team to support the activation of the health cluster and health emergency operation center (HEOC).
According to Sumarjaya, the local government has not built a health post. Health services for the community are focused on health centers that are still operating.
His party will activate the health cluster, if needed, in the field.
Fifteen health centers have been readied to provide services to evacuees near the disaster site, he informed.
The Bogor and Jakarta regional governments have also mobilized their teams to provide health services at the disaster location.
In view of the emergency situation, Sumarjaya reminded the disaster-affected community to maintain cleanliness, especially related to sanitation and clean water, to prevent the emergence of diseases.
"Beware of the potential spread of diseases that emerge after floods, always maintain health, and follow suggestions from health workers," he emphasized.
Floods and landslides were recorded in Sukabumi district on December 4. They resulted in five fatalities and one hospitalization, and displaced 1,321 people.
