In his speech at the D-8 Summit in Cairo on Thursday (Dec 19), President Subianto emphasized that without unity and the ability to overcome differences, the D-8 group would struggle to remain strong in the face of current geopolitical challenges.
"If we are weak, how can we support Palestine? Therefore, excellencies, let us harness our collaboration and drive economic growth," he told the attending leaders.
The president highlighted that boosting industrial capabilities and advancing technological innovation are key to strengthening the economy.
He also urged D-8 members to collaborate in making the Muslim world more prosperous and tackling poverty.
Furthermore, he called for unity within the D-8 to become a catalyst for positive change, advocating for the aspirations of the Global South and Muslims.
As Indonesia looks to the future, President Prabowo reaffirmed the country's unwavering commitment to this shared vision.
He called on the D-8 to serve as a beacon of hope for all nations and the world.
At the 11th D-8 Summit, President Prabowo was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arif Havas Oegroseno, and Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt Lutfi Rauf.
In addition to attending the summit in Cairo, President Prabowo had earlier met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Wednesday (Dec 18).
Established in 1997, the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation comprises eight countries, all members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC): Indonesia, Bangladesh, Iran, Malaysia, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey.
