Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, on Tuesday reminded law enforcement officers to ensure security across the country on New Year's Eve considering the high public mobility.

"Security forces, from the National Police, Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), and other parties, must ensure public security during New Year's Eve," she said in a statement released by her office.

According to her, officers' initiatives to secure the festivities are important to prevent crimes, control crowds, and maintain public safety.

"Including traffic accidents and misuse of fireworks," Maharani added.

She then reminded the public to practice mutual respect and uphold national values, saying the New Year is a moment of joy. She also urged them to remain alert against extreme weather.

She then asked all elements of society to maintain unity ahead of the new year.

"Let us make the new year a positive start. With the spirit of togetherness, let us welcome a better Indonesia," she remarked.

Maharani expressed the hope that all elements of the nation would synergize in 2025 after a fairly long series of elections in 2024—from the legislative and presidential elections to the regional elections.

Furthermore, she noted that Indonesia is still facing challenges in national development. Comprehensive policies are needed to address them and improve people's welfare.

"We need fiscal, monetary, real sector, and national development policies to build our strength in food, human resources, regional development, national industry, export commodities, and others," she emphasized.

To that end, she called for strengthening the quality of the state apparatus' performance, bureaucracy, business climate, and legal certainty.

She then affirmed the House's commitment to continue realizing the people's hopes and become the government's partner in carrying out Constitutional duties.

She also conveyed New Year greetings to all Indonesian people.

"May the new year bring blessings and hopes for the progress of the nation," she remarked.
