PCO head Hasan Nasbi conveyed this during a visit to SDN Kedung Badak 1 public elementary school in Bogor, West Java, on Monday.
Students at the school appeared to like the meal, which consisted of rice, omelet, broccoli, carrots, and bananas, he added.
"Even first-grade students at SDN Kedung Badak 1 were able to finish the vegetables because the taste was adjusted to what children actually want to eat," Nasbi said.
He also observed the program at a junior high school in Bogor.
According to Nasbi, students at the schools also finished the free lunch and were eager to eat the vegetable dishes. Some students felt the portion was too large, while others felt it was too small.
He explained that the portion sizes have been determined to meet students' calorie requirements: 600 calories per meal for junior high school students and 300 calories for elementary school students.
The Free Nutritious Meals program is a top priority for the government.
The program was officially launched on Monday at schools and integrated health service posts across 26 provinces. Currently, 190 kitchens have been operational to prepare meals for the program.
