Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto on Saturday expressed his gratitude to the Indian government for supporting Indonesia's bid for permanent membership of the BRICS economic bloc.

BRICS, which was founded as an alternative to the G7, is an acronym derived from the names of its early member countries—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Currently, the grouping comprises 10 countries, including Indonesia.

"We also thank India for supporting our permanent membership in BRICS," President Prabowo said while delivering a joint statement with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Saturday.

"We believe this cooperation will be beneficial for global stability and regional collaboration," he added.

He informed that both countries have agreed to enhance cooperation in several areas, including trade, defense, investment, tourism, health, energy, digital affairs, artificial intelligence (AI), and information technology.

President Prabowo said that he has instructed his officials to simplify complex regulations and bureaucracy to ensure that the cooperation agreements between the two countries can be followed up immediately.

"I have given this directive, and I will continue to instruct necessary directives to accelerate and strengthen economic cooperation with India," he informed.

He further said that Indonesia will prioritize its long-term strategic partnership with India if needed.

At Hyderabad House, on the sidelines of a bilateral meeting between the two governments, representatives from both countries signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in various fields.

According to Prabowo, the results of the bilateral meeting were "intensive and open." He thanked the Indian government for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation.

"Our discussions with Prime Minister Modi and his government were very intensive and open," he said.
