Jakarta (ANTARA) - The budget for social assistance will not be affected by President Prabowo Subianto’s decision on budget efficiencies, according to Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf.

He explained that the budget cut is targeting other categories, such as official travel, stationery, and various ceremonial activities that do not directly impact the public.

Meanwhile, the social assistance budget for 2025 will be adjusted in the range of Rp1 trillion to Rp1.3 trillion, he noted.

"There is more than Rp1 trillion budget, but we do not know exactly yet. We will adjust (the budget) if needed and follow the president’s decision,” Yusuf remarked here on Thursday.

He expects no cut in the social assistance budget, considering it is strongly related to the public’s interests.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati also confirmed that the government's budget efficiencies policy will not affect the social assistance budget.

"Budget for social assistance is not reduced. There are absolutely no budget cuts there," she remarked on Thursday at the BRI Microfinance Outlook 2025 held in Tangerang, Banten.

Earlier, President Prabowo issued a presidential instruction on budget cuts worth Rp306.69 trillion.

These cuts include Rp256.1 trillion for efficiency in ministry and institutional spending and Rp50.59 trillion from transfers to regions.

The efficiencies are intended to ensure that the state budget directly benefits the public.

Ministers and agency heads are required to submit the efficiency plans to the House of Representatives (DPR) and report their approval to the Minister of Finance or the Director General of Budget by February 14, 2025.
