Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that his ministry is continuing to coordinate with various stakeholders to reduce airfares during the 2025 Eid al-Fitr travel period.

"The Ministry of Transportation will keep working with stakeholders in the aviation sector to discuss plans for lowering ticket prices during the 2025 Eid al-Fitr period," he said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Thursday.

The minister proposed that the policy of lowering airplane ticket prices be implemented again, as done during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holiday period.

According to the minister, the policy had a positive impact on the national aviation industry, with domestic flights experiencing a growth of approximately 10.3 percent year on year (yoy) with an average load factor of 80 percent.

"This figure is higher than the 2023 Christmas and 2024 New Year period, which was at 5 percent (yoy)," he noted.

He affirmed that the Ministry of Transportation wants to provide convenience to the public, including by reducing flight fares during the Eid transportation period so that more people can afford them.

Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, is also pursuing a reduction in airfares to help people who will return to their hometowns to celebrate this year's Eid al-Fitr, which is expected to fall on March 31.

"We are still working on it. We are coordinating with the relevant parties," he said in a statement issued here on Thursday.

He urged all related ministries and stakeholders to make every effort to implement the fare reduction, which is highly anticipated by the public.
