Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) ensures that the Integrated Cold Storage (ICS) system maintains fish quality for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program.

"One example is the use of fish-based dishes in Kampar District, Riau," the ministry's Director General of Strengthening Marine and Fisheries Products Competitiveness, Budi Sulistyo, stated in an official statement on Friday (February 7).

According to Sulistyo, Kampar has an ICS facility managed by the fish processing unit PT Delta Mina Perkasa, with a capacity of 2 × 2.5 tons and an additional cold storage unit with a capacity of 2 × 50 tons.

He then praised the ICS, which has become the main supplier of catfish (ikan patin) to six MBG kitchens that serve meals to 54 schools in the surrounding area.

Sulistyo noted that fish dishes are served in rotation with other protein sources. He encouraged the local government to actively involve local businesses in supporting the success of the MBG program.

He remarked that the existence of ICS Kampar has supported the productivity of the Fish Processing Unit (UPI) in the area, with a production capacity of up to three tons of raw materials per day.

From these raw materials, the company can process one ton of fillet products per day. All of these raw materials come from the production of catfish farmers in Kampar District.

"This is a real manifestation of the circular economy in Kampar. We can take advantage of the facilities provided and improve the local economy from upstream to downstream," he remarked.

On the same occasion, head of the Kampar Fisheries Service, Zulfahmi, explained that the ICS was built by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in 2017 and is currently managed by PT Delta Mina Perkasa after being handed over to the local government.

"Hopefully, increasing fish consumption will help drive the local economy," he stated.

Earlier, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono reaffirmed the fisheries sector’s readiness to support the MBG program launched by President Prabowo Subianto to improve protein intake for the community, particularly children.

Trenggono emphasized that his ministry's involvement in this program will prioritize local fishery products, adapting them to regional preferences.
