"You asked me to run again in 2029, but I said, if my programs are not successful, there is no need for you to nominate me," he said in his speech at the 17th anniversary commemoration of the Gerindra Party in Sentul, Bogor, West Java, on Saturday.
He emphasized that his childhood dream has been to see Indonesia become a great country.
Therefore, he said that if his government's programs fail and disappoint the people, he would be embarrassed to run for president again in 2029.
"If I disappoint the people, I am ashamed to run again. Since I was a child, I just wanted to see a great Indonesia," he stated.
The Head of State denied being controlled by the 7th president of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Based on previous reports, the Gerindra Party has decided to support Prabowo if he contests the presidential polls in 2029.
This was announced at the party's extraordinary congress (KLB), which was held at Prabowo's residence in Hambalang, West Java, on Thursday.
"The Congress asks Mr. Prabowo to be willing to run again as a presidential candidate in the 2029 presidential election," Gerindra Party secretary general Ahmad Muzani said.
"He replied, 'God willing,' but asked for time to complete his duties as the President and fulfill his promise to the people," he added.
He said the decision was made by representatives of all leadership councils of the party across Indonesia who were present at the congress.
