Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has called for further intensifying efforts to combat online gambling, according to Head of the Presidential Communications Office Hasan Nasbi.

Prabowo is not only stressing on blocking access to online gambling sites, but also tracing payment gateways and money flows related to online gambling practices, he said here Monday.

Such efforts, according to Nasbi, reflect the government’s commitment to combating online gambling.

He also emphasized the need for international cooperation in fighting online gambling, considering many gambling providers are operating abroad.

“So, it is not just carried out by Indonesia alone, but it needs cooperation with various countries,” he said.

The Communication and Digital Affairs Ministry blocked as many as 711,522 pieces of digital content related to online gambling during the period from October 2024 to January 6, 2025.

The government has taken down a total of around 5.5 million online gambling-related digital advertisements since 2017.

In addition, the ministry has reported a continued decline in online gambling transactions based on quarterly evaluations in 2024, indicating that the government’s efforts to combat online gambling have been effective.

According to the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), the value of online gambling transactions declined to Rp4 trillion in the third quarter of 2024 from Rp21 trillion in the first quarter.
