Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra highlighted the importance of harmonizing central and regional policies for enforcing legal principles and upholding human rights.

At the retreat for regional leaders at the Military Academy, Magelang, Central Java, on Monday, he noted that legal issues in regions are quite diverse as they include constitutional law and state administration.

"Resolving these issues is the responsibility of structural apparatus, including the police and the prosecutor's office," he said, as confirmed here on Tuesday.

Mahendra also touched on human rights issues in various regions, including Papua, as well as agrarian conflicts that often arise in several areas.

He said the government must ensure that the policies implemented do not violate human rights, especially in resolving land disputes that are often found in regions.

On that occasion, he outlined materials related to the Pancasila ideology, strengthening democracy, and development in the fields of human rights and law.

The materials he conveyed at the regional leaders' briefing focused largely on the regional aspects.

As many as 456 regional leaders are participating in the retreat at the Military Academy on February 21-28.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto stated in Magelang on Friday (February 21) that the retreat would improve regional leaders' leadership skills, adding that his ministry is responsible for improving their competencies.

Beyond strengthening their understanding, the program also seeks to foster closer collaboration among leaders to support the effective implementation of government programs.

Earlier, on Thursday (February 20), President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated 961 regional leaders simultaneously at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, following the 2024 local polls.

The mass swearing-in ceremony involved 33 governors, 33 deputy governors, 363 district heads, 362 deputy district heads, 85 mayors, and 85 deputy mayors, marking a historical moment for Indonesia.
