Jakarta (ANTARA) - Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono and French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noel Barrot confirmed that French President Emmanuel Macron will conduct a state visit to Indonesia in May 2025.

Macron's planned visit is one of the agendas discussed during the bilateral meeting between the two foreign ministers here on Wednesday.

"We discussed the preparations for the visit and priority steps to enhance relations between the two countries, which will be the results of the visit," Sugiono remarked while delivering a joint press statement after the bilateral meeting.

He drew attention to several key focus areas for bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and France discussed during the meeting, including energy transition, food security, defense, digital transformation, and cultural relations.

Minister Sugiono stated that French investments in Indonesia have continued to show positive performance, reaching US$328 million in 2024, and are expected to increase in the coming years.

He remarked that Indonesia and France also agreed to promote investment growth in several sectors, including renewable energy, critical minerals, creative economy, logistics and transportation, as well as green infrastructure.

The foreign minister expressed optimism that the ongoing and planned cooperation between the two countries would yield concrete results for the people of both nations and strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in light of President Macron's planned visit to Indonesia.

"The results should be tangible, impactful, and involve all relevant stakeholders," Sugiono affirmed.

President Emmanuel Macron conveyed his plan to visit Indonesia during his meeting with Indonesia's Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid at the AI Action Summit in Paris last February.

President Macron's visit to Indonesia in May will mark the second state visit by a French President to Indonesia after President Francois Hollande met President Joko Widodo in Jakarta in March 2017.

A remarkable meeting between Indonesia and the French government also occurred in 2011 when former French PM François Fillon and then-President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono held talks in Jakarta.
