"From last night until early this morning, we observed that the homecoming process at Ciwandan Port was quite good, orderly, and smooth. Today, we had 11,800 two-wheeled vehicles, and it (the number) is expected to rise tomorrow," Purwagandhi remarked here on Thursday.
The minister directly monitored the movement of motorcycle homecomers at Ciwandan Port to ensure that crowd management was running smoothly. At that time, 21 ferries were operating to serve passengers.
According to the minister, facilities such as rest areas provided by state-owned port operator Pelindo and ASDP Ferry are helpful for homecomers, especially those with children.
He highlighted that the number of homecomers traveling by motorcycle at Ciwandan Port has risen since the night of Wednesday, March 26. Nevertheless, this situation has not obstructed access or led to congestion.
Despite the increase in homecomers, he noted that the traffic flow to and from Ciwandan Port remains safe and well-regulated, with no reports of congestion.
He remarked that Ciwandan Port tends to become crowded with motorcycle homecomers at night. He stated that this trend has been observed for several days and appears to follow a consistent pattern.
"Homecomers generally start to crowd the port at night, usually after the Taraweeh prayers. After that, the movement of homecomers begins to decline until morning," he explained.
During this year's Eid travel period, the government has implemented a scheme to manage ports based on vehicle types. With this scheme, Ciwandan Port is designated to serve motorcyclists crossing to Sumatra Island.
