Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has served 1,445,965 passengers as of March 28, 2025, during the 2025/1446 Hijriah Eid al-Fitr homecoming transportation period.

"During the Eid transportation period, total sales exceeded 3.3 million. Until March 28, KAI had served 1,445,965 customers," KAI Vice President of Public Relations Anne Purba confirmed on Saturday.

Purba revealed that March 28 marked the peak of Eid homecoming travel in 2025, with ticket sales reaching a daily total of 215,646—184,008 for long-distance train tickets (KAJJ) and 31,638 for local train tickets managed by KAI.

She noted that this is the highest ticket sales recorded during the Eid transportation period from March 21 to April 11, 2025, with occupancy rates of 115.56 percent for KAJJ and 60.65 percent for local trains.

"The occupancy rate exceeds 100 percent due to the flexible passenger travel pattern. Customers get on and off at various stations along the route, not just from the starting station to the final destination," Purba explained.

For this homecoming transport, her side has allocated a total capacity of up to 4,591,510 seats for the travel period of March 21-April 11, 2025, comprising 3,443,832 for KAJJ and 1,147,678 for local trains.

"As of March 29, 2025, at 07:00 local time, ticket sales showed a positive trend, with a total of 3,303,774 tickets sold, or around 71.95 percent of the total capacity provided," she noted.

Out of this total sold tickets figure, long-distance train tickets accounted for 2,970,399, with an occupancy rate of 86.25 percent, while local train ticket sales are recorded at 333,375, or 29.05 percent of the available capacity.

During the Eid Transportation period, Purba stated that KAI operated 9,656 train trips, marking an eight percent increase compared to the previous period.

KAI has also arranged 1,080 additional trips to address the high demand to serve various popular routes.

"We remind customers to carry official identity documents and travel tickets for a smooth boarding process," she emphasized.

As a practical solution, customers can also use the facial recognition facility available at 21 KAI stations, including Gambir Station, Pasar Senen, Bekasi, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya Gubeng, and others.

This technology allows passengers to board trains effortlessly without needing printed tickets or identity cards.
