"We decided to apply this national one-way system after evaluating the volume of traffic from yesterday afternoon until last night," Prabowo remarked at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate in Semarang, Central Java, on Sunday.
He explained that a significant increase in westbound traffic heading to Jakarta necessitated the implementation of the one-way system, which stretches from KM 414 at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate to KM 70 at the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate in West Java.
The general also outlined plans to apply a contraflow system from KM 70 to KM 47 on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road to help maintain traffic flow during the Eid al-Fitr return period.
He reassured travelers that the authorities had prepared alternative plans to respond to changing traffic conditions.
"With a variety of alternatives in place, we expect smooth traffic flow in both westbound and eastbound directions," he stated.
Meanwhile, Transportation Minister Purwagandhi stressed that the one-way scheme would not disrupt eastbound traffic, as arterial roads still have adequate capacity for vehicles traveling in that direction.
"No issues are expected in the flow of vehicles moving eastbound from Jakarta," he assured the public.
He added that the government had also prepared the Cisumdawu and Japek II toll roads as alternative routes to ease traffic volume during the return flow.
Health Minister Sadikin, for his part, encouraged those traveling in private vehicles to take a break every four hours of driving.
“Please rest for 15 to 20 minutes after every four hours of driving to reduce the risk of accidents,” he advised.
