"There are two pregnant women, at 16 and 32 weeks of gestation, being treated by the Indonesian EMT in Myanmar,” National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) head of the data, information, and communication center Abdul Muhari noted in his statement on Friday (April 11).
He added that the medical team has also performed minor operations and offered treatment that includes emergency measures for other affected residents.
The Indonesian EMT has been serving in Myanmar since April 3, along with the Indonesian Search and Rescue (INASAR) team, as part of the humanitarian mission mandated by President Prabowo Subianto.
The Indonesian EMT comprises 32 personnel with diverse expertise, such as general practitioners, specialist doctors, nurses, midwives, and administrative and logistics officers.
The EMT also includes five medical staff from the Indonesian Red Crescent organization and supported by local medical personnel in Myanmar.
The health services are facilitated through five emergency tents specially built in the area of Hospital 50 Oattara Thiri Township, Naypyitaw City, Myanmar. Each tent serves a specific purpose: an emergency unit, outpatient polyclinic, observation room, pharmacy, and logistics warehouse.
With these facilities, Abdul highlighted that the Indonesian EMT can independently conduct medical procedures, including surgical procedures and administering medicines brought directly from Indonesia.
He stated that the Indonesian EMTs have treated various conditions, such as hypertension, muscle pain, respiratory tract infections, stomach disorders, wounds, vertigo, stroke, and skin diseases.
They also provide treatment for earthquake-related emergencies such as lacerations and fractures.
As of Thursday (April 10), the Indonesian EMT has served and treated at least 1,112 residents impacted by the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake that destroyed several buildings in Myanmar.
