Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government plans to resume preparations next year for transferring civil servants to Indonesia's new capital city, Nusantara (IKN), according to Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Rini Widyantini.

Addressing national lawmakers, she explained that restarting preparations is necessary to ensure the relocation aligns seamlessly with new strategies for developing the future seat of government.

"We have prepared a ministerial letter, which was signed on January 24 this year, informing all ministries, agencies, and their civil servants of the transfer postponement," she remarked during a meeting with Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Widyantini remarked that the letter also outlines one of the main reasons for the delay: a major overhaul in the organizational structure and nomenclature of ministries and agencies under President Prabowo Subianto's cabinet.

"Ministries and agencies in the Red and White Cabinet are still in the process of internal consolidation," she noted.

Further justifying the postponement, the minister stated that these organizational reforms require the government to adjust the distribution and placement of human resources across institutions, ultimately shelving the plan to begin the transfer in 2024.

"Of course, these developments will affect the placement of state apparatus, as well as the arrangement of institutional assets. Everything must be aligned with the structure of the newly established Red and White Cabinet," she emphasized.

Given these developments, Widyantini stressed that resuming transfer preparations is essential to ensure the placement of civil servants in IKN supports the government's new structure and priority strategies.

"It is true that the transfer of civil servants to IKN is not yet feasible. We cannot provide a fixed schedule for the relocation, as Mr. President has yet to sign a regulation authorizing this process," she told legislators.
