In a written statement here on Monday, he explained that social justice -- the fifth principle of the national ideology, Pancasila -- should be the main orientation of the program.
“Cooperatives must continue to be empowered to ensure no one is left behind in the nation’s progress,” he affirmed.
Setiadi emphasized that village cooperatives serve as the government’s instruments to counter parties that exploit communities, especially in villages, such as loan sharks and online lenders.
He explained that through the cooperatives, the benefits of development and economic progress in villages will be distributed evenly, rather than being concentrated among certain groups.
The minister encouraged all parties to use the momentum of Pancasila Day, observed every June 1, as a reminder that villages should not be left behind in Indonesia’s development.
He expressed optimism that, with the spirit of collaboration and professional management, the cooperatives can transform villages into centers of growth.
“It is time for us to no longer view cooperatives as second-class economic entities,” he stressed.
He also emphasized that economic progress without a foundation in Pancasila values will trigger inequality, social disparities, and various other issues. Likewise, technological progress without Pancasila's guidance can result in dehumanization.
Therefore, strengthening the Pancasila ideology in development across various fields is deemed fundamental.
He remarked that through the Asta Cita missions under President Prabowo Subianto's leadership, the government is determined to actualize the values of Pancasila in people's everyday lives.
The Indonesian government is seeking to establish as many as 80 thousand Red and White Village Cooperatives across the country.
The cooperatives are envisioned as hubs for economic and social services in village communities, offering savings, loans, and clinic services, among other benefits.
