“We received direct instructions from Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf to ensure that all logistical assistance and psychosocial support reach the victims, especially vulnerable groups,” the ministry's Director of Social Protection for Victims of Social and Non-Natural Disasters, Adrianus Alla, stated here on Saturday.
He remarked that Minister Yusuf has stressed the importance of a recovery process that is swift, accurate, and responsive to residents' needs.
The fire, which broke out on Friday (June 6), destroyed around 500 semi-permanent homes and affected at least 800 households, or approximately 3,200 people.
The fire reportedly started from an unattended stove and quickly spread to nearby homes, warehouses, and business stalls.
Firefighting efforts involved 29 fire trucks and local residents who had just completed the Friday prayers. The operation continued into the night, followed by a cooling process until early Saturday morning.
Most displaced residents are currently staying with relatives or on a private-owned vacant land. Meanwhile, data collection on vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, children, and persons with disabilities, is still ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Social Affairs has distributed emergency aid worth over Rp291 million, including multipurpose tents, blankets, clothing for adults and children, and other essential items.
In addition to logistical support, the ministry is providing psychosocial services for vulnerable individuals and is coordinating closely with the Jakarta Provincial Social Affairs Office, Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), and the local government to meet all basic needs of the survivors.
The ministry will continue to oversee the recovery process and ensure that every affected resident receives assistance.
