Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto said he received a phone call early Friday from US President Donald Trump, at a time when the American leader's tariff policy on global trade continues to also impact Indonesia.

However, the Indonesian head of state did not reveal any details on the topics discussed with Trump during his telephone conversation, according to a post on his official Instagram account @prabowo.

Despite no information on the issues the two leaders had discussed, a photo was uploaded to the Instagram account.

The photo captured Prabowo during his phone conversation with Trump, appearing pleased to receive the US president's phone call.

As of Friday morning, neither Presidential Spokesperson Prasetyo Hadi nor Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya had provided any information to the public regarding the outcome of Prabowo and Trump's telephone conversation.

As reported earlier, Prabowo's last phone call with Trump took place in November 2024 during his official visit to the United States to meet then-US President Joe Biden, who was still in office at the time.

During his two-minute and fifty-second call, President Prabowo congratulated Trump on his victory in the US presidential election, which marked his return to the White House for a second term.

This year, Indonesia and the United States mark 76 years of diplomatic ties. The two countries maintain strong cooperation in various sectors, including economy, trade, education, culture, and defense.

Despite a healthy and supportive relationship, the Trump administration has introduced a tariff policy on global trade that has affected several countries, including Indonesia.

In this context, Trade Minister Budi Santoso stated on Wednesday that Indonesia's trade surplus fell to US$160 million in April 2025, partly due to President Donald Trump's tariff policy.

He noted that this decline in trade balance was not unique to Indonesia but was also experienced by other countries in Southeast Asia.

In light of President Trump's tariff policy, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto recently stated that the US government responded positively to Indonesia's proposals for strengthening bilateral economic ties.
