“On National Family Day, we will launch the Empowered Elderly and Family Academy programs because all matters in this country start from families,” Minister of Population and Family Development, Wihaji, said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He informed that the Family Academy program aims to advance a new perspective on family, namely that Indonesia’s future will be determined by its families.
“If the families are doing well, Indonesia will do well,” he underlined.
In the initial stage, the Family Academy will be separated into three groups—basic, intermediate, and advanced—for junior high school, senior high school, and university levels.
Its participants will comprise 170 students from the 38 provinces of Indonesia.
According to Wihaji, his ministry is also planning to grant scholarships to program participants.
“For the initial stage, I will select five people from each province (for the scholarship),” he said.
The National Family Day has been commemorated in Indonesia since 1993.
This year, in addition to the Empowered Elderly and Family Academy programs, the government will also provide family planning and birth control services in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) areas to commemorate the day.
