Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) recorded more than 5.2 million recipients of the free nutritious meals, as of June 22, 2025.

According to special staff of communication of the BGN’s head, Redy Hendra Gunawan, the free meals program targets various groups of recipients, including students at the early childhood education, primary school, junior high school, senior high school as well as religious-based schools.

This program is also intended for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and toddlers under five years old, he said on Sunday.

Based on the BGN data, in the early age group, there were 35,523 recipients of the program, consisting of 79,090 early childhood education students; 31,999 Islamic school students; and 197,391 kindergarten students.

For basic education, there are 985,204 elementary school students from grades 1 to 3 who have been receiving the free meals as well as 1,102,327 students from grades 4 to 6.

Meanwhile, there are 100,037 students from grades 1 to 3 of Islamic elementary school and 96,909 students from grades 4 to 6.

At the junior high school level, there are 1,251,158 recipients from junior high school students, and 204,746 students from Islamic junior high school.

Meanwhile, at the senior high school level, there are 591,174 high school students; 392,486 vocational high school students; 108,060 Islamic senior high school students; and 211 Islamic vocational school students who have been reached by the program.

This program also covers 8,287 students of the school for special-needs children and 21,468 Islamic boarding school students. In addition, there are 1,546 recipients from the community learning activity center (PKBM) and 302 beneficiaries from the seminaries.

In the mother and children group, the number of pregnant women who received benefits from the program reached 8,012 people, and breastfeeding mothers were 12,599 people.

"This free meals program is a manifestation of the government's strong commitment, from President Prabowo (Subianto), to improving our human resources in an effort to create a healthy generation," Gunawan noted.
