Jakarta (ANTARA) - Financial support worth Rp130 trillion (around US$8 billion) prepared by the Danantara Indonesia Investment Management Agency for the housing sector reflects Indonesia’s self-reliance, Housing and Settlements (PKP) Minister Maruarar Sirait stated.

“Funding from Danantara serves as a testament to the ability of the Indonesian nation to stand on its own feet—on par with other nations around the globe—under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration,” he remarked in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Sirait emphasized that this substantial budget allocation reflects the government’s determination to achieve the target of building and renovating three million homes annually to improve the quality of life of people across the country.

The minister also expressed his readiness to follow President Prabowo’s instruction to avoid foreign loans in developing the national housing sector.

However, he commended foreign financial institutions for initiating communication with the PKP Ministry, noting that this reflects a high level of trust in President Prabowo’s leadership and administration.

The Rp130 trillion fund allocation was first announced by Danantara CEO Rosan Perkasa Roeslani on June 17. He explained that the funds would be utilized for housing projects in collaboration with the PKP Ministry, the Public Housing Savings Management Agency (BP Tapera), and state-owned banks.

“By the end of this year, we have calculated that we could reach Rp130 trillion, and of course, the scheme has been finalized so it can be implemented immediately,” he noted in a statement received in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Minister Sirait welcomed the financial support, noting that the funds would be used to support housing projects under the People’s Business Credit (KUR) scheme.

He underlined that Danantara’s move was based on the president’s directive, adding that advancing the housing sector is essential to boost economic growth.

“Economic growth heavily relies on the housing sector, as it empowers around 180 industries to procure cement, sand, glass, lamps, and other materials,” he affirmed.
