Gianyar, Bali (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar stated that the development of North Bali International Airport (BIBU) is a strategic move to accelerate community empowerment by driving the growth of MSMEs and the creative economy.

Speaking in Gianyar, Bali, on Thursday, Iskandar emphasized that the construction of the airport, initiated by PT BIBU Panji Sakti, represents a significant effort toward realizing a more advanced and inclusive society.

He noted that Bali is already recognized as an area with the characteristics of an advanced region, making it a suitable location for such infrastructure development.

To this end, Iskandar expressed his support for accelerating the airport’s construction, which is planned for the Kubutambahan area in Buleleng District, Bali.

“It has fulfilled all the necessary requirements—not only administrative or developer requirements, but also those needed to be classified as an advanced region,” the minister remarked.

He outlined three criteria for an area to be considered advanced: having a legal entity, maintaining strong traditions and cultural identity, and possessing access to various essential services and infrastructure.

Regarding accessibility, Iskandar argued that a second airport is crucial for ensuring balanced regional development across Bali.

“If there is only one airport, access becomes limited. We need at least two airports,” he said.

The North Bali International Airport project has been included in Indonesia’s 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), marking it as a national priority for infrastructure and regional growth.
