Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government will submit its list of Indonesian ambassador candidates to Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Wednesday, according to DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad.

“The State Secretary Minister (Prasetyo Hadi) informed us that the list of ambassador candidates, including one for the United States, will be forwarded to the DPR tomorrow. We will process the names according to the mechanism applied by Commission I,” he said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media after seeing off President Prabowo Subianto, who left for an overseas visit from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base on Tuesday, Dasco informed that the government will propose only one ambassador candidate for the Indonesian Embassy in Washington, D.C.

However, the lawmaker declined to disclose the candidate’s name, saying that details about the list would be revealed later by Commission I deputy chair Budisatrio Djiwandono.

He then informed that the DPR and the government will fast-track the entire appointment process, including the fit-and-proper tests, considering the limited time remaining in DPR’s Session Period IV of 2024–2025.

“Given the short time frame of the current session period, we will strive to push for the immediate inauguration of ambassadors,” he said.

Earlier, the DPR’s Commission I had urged Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono to promptly resolve the issue of unfilled ambassadorial posts at several Indonesian embassies abroad.

“I want the vacant positions to be filled immediately, no matter what,” deputy chair of Commission I, Anton Sukartono, told the minister during a meeting at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Monday.

The parliament called for the swift appointment of leaders for the Indonesian permanent missions to the United Nations in New York and Geneva, as well as embassies in the United States, Germany, North Korea, Mexico, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Libya, Madagascar, Myanmar, and Poland.
