“All entertainment venues, whether karaoke, clubs, or others, cannot be in public places where people smoke. However, they must provide a designated smoking area,” Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said on Saturday.
According to Pramono, the special rooms are meant to separate smokers from non-smokers.
Thus, visitors to entertainment venues will still be able to smoke, but only in a designated room, he said.
“For example, people will no longer be allowed to smoke in their karaoke room. They should go to the special smoking area,” he explained.
The provincial government emphasized that the ratification of the Ranperda KTR must be carried out carefully to prevent any negative impact on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
“I have met with the leaders of the Ranperda and Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) that prepared the regional regulation. I emphasized my message that MSMEs should not be disturbed by this regulation,” the governor said.
Earlier, the special committee (Pansus) on smoke-free areas (KTR) of the DKI Jakarta DPRD said that the smoking prohibition in entertainment venues has been included in the standard rules specified in the draft regional regulation.
“The smoking prohibition in entertainment venues must be explained specifically,” a member of the special committee, Ali Lubis, said on June 23, 2025.
During a discussion of the smoke-free area regulation, he informed that the standard rules for smoking prohibition must be discussed specifically and included in Chapter I on “General Provisions” of the regulation.
He said that the prohibition must also be comprehensive, for example, it must cover nightclubs, discos, bars, karaoke rooms, and gaming arcades that provide night entertainment for the public.
