Jakarta (ANTARA) - Spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Haryo Limanseto, said he is confident that Indonesia will manage to negotiate an import tariff reduction with the United States.

According to Limanseto, the Indonesian negotiation team has submitted all necessary documents, drawing praise from its US counterpart and setting an example for other countries.

“However, the decision lies within President Donald Trump. For us, we are not done yet. The US letter stated that the tariffs will be implemented in August (2025),” he said at a media briefing on Wednesday.

Earlier, President Trump decided to stick to the 32-percent import tariff on Indonesia, first announced in April, despite ongoing negotiations.

Limanseto said that the US needs to consider Indonesia’s natural resource wealth, which makes the country a crucial strategic trading partner.

He informed that so far, Indonesia has fulfilled all US requests, including helping minimize the US deficit through business-to-business trade agreements and investment.

“We will continue negotiating, we will respond appropriately, and we will persist that Indonesia’s considerations are strategic, and it deserves priority from the United States government,” he added.

Earlier, Indonesian entrepreneurs and their US partners successfully secured commercial agreements worth US$34 billion in strategic sectors as part of efforts to strengthen economic relations between the two countries.

The companies include PT Pertamina and PT Busana Apparel Group (representing the Indonesian Textile Association), FKS Group, Sorini Agro Asia Corporindo (a member of the Indonesian Corn Refining Producers Association), and the Indonesian Wheat Flour Producers Association.

The commercial agreements were reached during a high-level business meeting hosted by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Washington, D.C., on July 7, 2025.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, is currently conducting tariff negotiations with the United States in Washington, D.C.

“We still have room to respond, as conveyed by the US government, the Indonesian government will optimize available opportunities to safeguard national interests,” Limanseto said.
