“Improving the quality of the West Nias RSUD is part of the government’s quick-win programs,” he said after breaking ground for the project in West Nias on Friday, according to a statement received in Medan, North Sumatra, on Saturday.
He noted that President Prabowo Subianto has introduced several quick-win programs that are designed to deliver prompt results. The programs include the development of type C hospitals across Indonesia, he said.
“West Nias is the 19th groundbreaking location under the hospital quick-win program,” he added.
In this regard, the minister informed that with expanded capacity and improved equipment, the West Nias RSUD is set to transform from a type D into a type C hospital, which is required to have at least 100 beds and modern facilities.
“The government aims to upgrade the Pratama RSUD by developing a three-story building featuring essential service facilities, such as an emergency unit, inpatient rooms, delivery rooms, a laboratory, and pharmaceutical services,” Sadikin elaborated.
He emphasized that the public hospital’s development demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring equal access to medical services for all citizens, including those in remote areas.
“The Pratama RSUD is expected to serve as a first-level referral facility offering high-quality basic services,” he added.
Meanwhile, North Sumatra Deputy Governor, Surya, who also attended the groundbreaking, said that at least 207 hospitals are operating in the province, and nine of them are on the Nias Islands.
“Currently, the Dr. M Thompson RSUD in Gunungsitoli city is the only referral hospital with adequate quality in the Nias Islands. This poses a challenge, given that the islands are home to over 962 thousand people,” he added.
He stressed that the North Sumatra provincial government will continue to work to improve the health sector in the Nias Islands, including by providing financial support to local doctors to pursue specialist education.
Meanwhile, West Nias district head Eliyunus Waruwu praised the central and provincial governments for their efforts to strengthen health services in the district.
“We are very grateful and ready to fully support the development,” he said.
